Keeping Patients and Staff Safe

These are extraordinary times and Waypoint is committed to transparency and communication with the community that we serve. We are closely monitoring the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation and taking immediate precautions to ensure that patients and staff are safe and to preserve essential medical supplies and equipment.

Like all hospitals, Waypoint has extensive and detailed procedures in place for infection prevention and control. These are designed to ensure the health and safety of our staff, the community and those within our care.

Waypoint is working closely with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on reporting, surveillance and infection control policies and procedures. Our staff continually monitors and follows the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) recommendations from Public Health as they are updated, including screening and use of personal protective equipment.

Additional Precautions to Keep Patients and Staff Safe

**NEW** Visitor Information
Waypoint continues to experience outbreaks on our units. The outbreak on the Brébeuf Program was declared over on Friday, May 6th and then enhanced surveillance on Beckwith A was declared over on May 9th. However a new outbreak was declared on Awenda B on May 6th and the outbreaks on Beausoleil A and B continue.

Infection prevention and control measures – including increased testing of patients and staff – are in place. In-person visits are not permitted at this time.

REMINDER FOR VISITORS
For units that are not in outbreak or enhanced surveillance, visits are permitted and must be scheduled 72 hours in advance.

Proof of vaccination with QR code and photo ID is required for all visitors, or proof of medical exemption. Some limited exceptions apply in all circumstances such as palliative situations.

All visitors must check in with the hospital before a visit, pass COVID-related screening questions, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment regardless of whether the visit takes place indoors or out.

Due to rapid spread of COVID-19 in our communities, eating and drinking is no longer permitted during visits. Commercially produced and prepackaged/sealed foods that do not require refrigeration may be brought in for individual patient consumption on the program after the visit.

As COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly, we urge you to get vaccinated, including third and fourth doses if eligible, wear a mask, physical distance and continue to be cautious about gathering in large groups. We can help each other and we can help the health care system by doing everything we can to stay healthy and help our loved ones stay healthy.

For more information on visiting, please contact the hospital at 705.549.3181 or 1.877.341.4729 and speak a member of the care team. You may also visit our Visitor Page for more information.

Infection Control Measures

  * A well-established infection prevention and control team with experience
in the successful management of outbreaks
  * Screening everyone for the symptoms of illness
  * Isolating and testing all new admissions
  * Use of virtual technology and telephone for outpatient and community
     visits

  * Adhering to public health guidelines and recommendations on the use of
personal protective equipment, hand hygiene and physical distancing
  * Enhanced housekeeping in all our buildings
  * Enabling staff to work from home to reduce traffic in and out of the
     hospital

  * Regular communication with staff, patients, families, stakeholders,
     partners and donors

Visitor Vaccination Requirements
All visitors must also provide a QR code with proof of vaccination (two doses) and photo identification, or proof of medical exemption. Some limited exceptions apply in all circumstances such as palliative situations.

Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment is required for everyone at the direction of staff, and consists of at minimum a surgical mask. Home-made or external masks are not permitted as we cannot ensure the quality, cleanliness or use of appropriate hygiene practices for these products which, if not done properly, may pose an additional risk to patients and staff.

Volunteers
Due to COVID 19 all-volunteer programs are temporarily suspended. We are not accepting and/or processing new volunteer applications until volunteer operations resume. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
